Questions clinicians actually ask
Is NoteWrite HIPAA compliant?
NoteWrite is designed around HIPAA principles: client records stay on your device, AI processing happens under a signed Business Associate Addendum with AWS with no data retention afterward, and safety-related content never reaches AI at all. You, as the clinician, remain the covered entity — NoteWrite acts as your Business Associate for the AI processing step. See the Security & Privacy page and Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Does the AI ever make things up?
NoteWrite's AI is instructed, at every step, to extract and reflect only what was actually said — never to infer, assume, or add clinical content that wasn't present in the session. You review exactly what was captured before any note is generated, and every generated section stays fully editable before you sign. If you'd rather not use AI at all, Manual Mode lets you document SOAP and DAP notes by typing directly, with zero AI involvement.
What happens to safety-related information — suicidal ideation, self-harm, safety plans?
That content is handled entirely separately from the AI. It's captured through its own dedicated flow, formatted deterministically (not by AI), and never included in anything sent for AI extraction or generation. It also can't be introduced or altered by AI-generated text.
Where is my client data actually stored?
On your device, in the app's private storage — not in a database NoteWrite operates. NoteWrite doesn't have server-side access to your client records, transcripts, diagnoses, or notes. The only exception is the specific text sent for an AI-assisted feature, which is processed once and not retained.
What if I lose my phone?
Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode is required every time the app opens — this isn't optional. Beyond that, your normal iOS device security (passcode, Find My, remote wipe) applies the same way it would to any other app's data on your phone. We'd recommend the same device hygiene you'd use for any clinical tool: a passcode, and enabling Find My iPhone.
Do I need an internet connection?
For AI-assisted extraction, generation, and revision, yes — those steps call out to AWS. Speech-to-text, safety documentation, screeners, and Manual Mode (for SOAP/DAP) all work without a connection.
What devices does NoteWrite run on?
NoteWrite is an iOS app, built for iPhone. There's currently no Android or web version.
Can I use NoteWrite for couples, family, or group sessions?
NoteWrite is currently built around individual client sessions. Family/group-specific documentation is on our roadmap but not available yet — let us know if that's a priority for your practice, it helps us prioritize.
How is this different from other AI scribe apps?
Most differences come down to what's willing to leave your device. Speech-to-text runs entirely on-device rather than through a cloud transcription service, safety-related content (suicidal ideation, self-harm, safety plans) never touches AI in either direction, and Manual Mode is a real off-switch — not just a policy — for SOAP and DAP notes. NoteWrite is also built format-by-format (SOAP, DAP, GIRP, BIRP, Biopsychosocial, Treatment Plan, EMDR each have their own generation logic) rather than one generic template stretched across all of them.
Can multiple clinicians in my practice use it?
Today, each clinician uses their own individual account and subscription — there isn't a group-practice or multi-seat plan yet. If you're a practice lead interested in onboarding multiple clinicians, get in touch; we're gauging interest for practice-level plans.
How does pricing work?
NoteWrite is currently in private beta at no cost. See the Pricing page for what to expect at general availability.
Is there a free trial after the beta ends?
Trial terms haven't been finalized yet. What's certain: beta practices will hear about the transition to paid plans well before it takes effect, with plenty of notice — see Pricing for what's confirmed so far.
How do I get access?
We're onboarding beta practices in small batches. Request early access and we'll follow up directly.
